Laboratory Experiments

Data Protection

All information collected during the registration for our participant database will be used for the sole purpose of organizing scientific experiments. The information will not be shared with other institutions and is anonymized. All handling of personal data is subject to the University of Copenhagen's data privacy rules. You can read more about your rights, withdrawl of consent or how to file a complaint at https://informationssikkerhed.ku.dk/english/protection-of-information-privacy/privacy-policy/.

If you receive invitations to research experiments after registration and chose to participate, you give basic general consent that the University of Copenhagen can share the annonymized research data with our research partners. Note that in normal cases no personal data is collected during economic experiments by our research partners. You might be asked to provide your name during the experiment because that information is necessary for the University of Copenhagen to process your payment at the end of the session. This information is only used for payment processing and is not passed to our external research partners. Note that we are also required to store the receipts that you sign to confirm the reception of your payment for KU internal accounting purposes.

In specific cases where it might be necessary to collect additional personal data during an experiment, you will be asked for constent before the experiment - e.g. by signing a separate consent form that specifies the details of consent for that specific experiment.

You can remove your data from the database at any time. To request de-registration, send an email to: experiment@econ.ku.dk or click at the unsubscribe button at any email that you receive from us. Be aware that while we can delete your personal data from the ORSEE database, we can not delete the research data that was generated during your participation. Such data will be annonymized and can be used by our research partners for scientific publications.

Status of participation/ payment

1. You will be paid at least 50 DKK as a show up fee and the experiment itself involves further payment. You will be paid in cash immediately after the experiment.

2. You may withdraw from this study at any time without penalty. If you are not able to attend the experiment, for any reason, you will inform the experimenter (experiment@econ.ku.dk) about this at least 12 hours ahead.

3. Please be aware that for some experiments we have to overbook the sessions, meaning that we invite more people than needed for the experiment. We do this to ensure against individual participants not showing up. If more people than needed turn up there will be a lottery determining participation. If you are turned away you will receive 50 DKK and a guaranteed spot in future sessions of the same experiment, if available.

When you register for an experimental session, you commit to participating in the experiment at the determined hour you previously agreed.

Furthermore, the rules require that you show up whenever you have registered to participate in an experiment.

We record the number of sessions, you registered but did not show up for. When your number of no-shows exceeds 2, you will be automatically deleted from the subject pool. This means that you will not receive any more invitations.

4. People who give their agreement to take part in the experiment have to keep in mind that if they do not turn up or turn up late then the experiment might be canceled because of a lack of participants.

Important:

You don't need to be a student to participate in these economic experiments. We encourage people with all kinds of professions and cultural backgrounds to participate.

The experiments will be conducted in English.

When you register, you receive a confirmation email with a link that you must follow in order to complete your registration. If you did not receive this email it might have ended up in your spam inbox. You will not receive invitations until you have confirmed your registration.

Also, note that you cannot sign up with an email from gmx.de/web.de as they block our emails. Please use another email address when you register (e.g. your KU mail or Gmail).
